Every summer, air conditioners have become the most used home appliances. Particularly the wall split-air conditioners. However, if we do not clean it for a long time, the air conditioner will be dirtier than a toilet. Dust, mold, bacteria...all blown out with the cold wind. Most of us want to clean but think it's troublesome. So whether or not we can clean it? And to clean it efficiently? Let's take a close look:

I. Why should we clean the air conditioner regularly?

  • Severe dust accumulation ➜ Slow cooling and increased power consumption.
  • Moldy filter ➜ Odor and unclean air.
  • Bacteria breeding ➜ Easily cause allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems.

II. Which parts can we clean?

1. Air filter

Steps: Power off and open the panel, then take out the filter and wash with water. Finally, keep it dry and put it back.

Suggested cleaning frequency: Once a month.

Function: Filter dust in the air. Once blocked, it will affect the air volume and cooling effect and may also breed bacteria.

2. Panel and air outlet

Steps: Wipe away dust with a damp rag; for the gaps between the fan blades, we can use a cotton swab or a small brush to deeply clean.

Note: Do not use alcohol or strong detergents to avoid corroding plastic parts.

III. Parts that should be careful.

These parts are deeply hidden and complex in structure and at high risk of manipulation:

  • Evaporator
  • Fan impeller
  • Condenser
  • Drainage system

It is best to ask professionals to clean them, usually once a year.

Note: Disassembling and cleaning your home air conditioners by yourself may damage components, cause water and electricity leakage, and void the warranty.

IV. Cleaning process

1. Tools needed:

  • Wet rag, cotton swab, small brush
  • Neutral detergent (non-alcoholic)
  • Basket or bucket (to catch water)
  • Vacuum cleaner (optional, for housing dust)

2. Cleaning steps:

  • Turn off the power (to ensure safety).
  • Open the panel and remove the filter.
  • Wash the filter with clean water and dry it.
  • Wipe the panel and air outlet.
  • Reinstall it back to its original position and plug it in for testing.

You can clean the air conditioners yourself, but don't go too deep.

Wipe the filter and the outer shell; it's simple and effective. Deep cleaning is better left to professionals!
